We have been looking to design a harness for people who want the backstrap longer, The problem is the normal one is too short for some people and the longer dog style is just too long for a pig. I worked on this one weekend and I think I have hit the right length. I think you will be happy with it too. Let’s start by deciding which size you need. Let’s take our two pigs. We shall name them Alice and Jerry. Now Jerry is a long muscular pig. Alice is short and fat. Now I have noticed many people think that the numbers I give are a measurement of weight, so how would you weigh these pigs and possibly get a close measurement? Because although Jerry is long, Alice is heavy set. So as a regular male hog he can be 700 lbs. Alice although heavy is setting around 500. So no to everyone who has ordered a harness to find it won’t fit because it’s not by weight. The answer of course, is inches. I’m going to tell you how to measure. Take a tape measure. Personally, we just grab one from the sewing room. Then measure around the body just behind the front legs. We like a neck measurement as well but normally if we get the body right the neck is fine.
