I bought this dog harness for my sister-in-law, who has been pulled over by her 20# mixed breed, short legged dog more than once. So far, it seems to be just what she needs to protect both herself and the dog.The color Teal is true to the picture as shown. The fit is probably a bit small for a size medium, given that the dog falls right in the low-to-middle of the range for medium as shown in the ad: the dog's neck measures 12.5" (opening: 14-inch), her girth is 20.5" (girth: 18-24-inch), and her weight is 21# (weight: 20-40-pound). This harness fits my sister-in-law's dog very comfortably in all respects, but I had to adjust the harness girth to within 1" of its maximum, and the neck opening is just about perfect for the dog. You certainly wouldn't want to buy a medium size for a dog that was anywhere close to the maximum dimensions as specified for this harness, or even for a dog that was much bigger than my sister-in-law's dog.The finish of the harness is good. All edges have padded finish tape sewn onto them. The mesh fabric appears to be quite breathable (you can see through it easily when held up to the light), and it seems to be sturdy enough to withstand the dog's tugging. The placement of the girth straps is far enough behind the front legs that the straps do not cut into the dog at all during normal activity, and if the dog pulls hard, the straps would actually tend to pull away from the legs just a bit, so even less chance of them cutting into the dog in that situation. The D-ring for attaching the leash is at the rear of the top of the harness and appears to be firmly attached. All in all, a well made product. Now if we can just get my sister-in-law to stay on her feet when taking the dog out for a walk....I like this harness because it's a bit stretchy, so it gives when my dog stops and insists on sniffing things on our walks. It's also safe when we meet another dog, and they decide to play because it's on the chest and not the throat. (Mine isn't reliable off leash at this point.) RC Pets makes good products, another reason I got it. Lastly, it came in a large enough size to fit my dog (whippet/Italian greyhound mix), and a lot of the small dog harnesses are for really small dogs. She's 17" tall, and has a bony, narrow frame that results in some harnesses coming off when she stops and rolls in the grass, etc. With the flexible harness, there's some give when I have to tighten it so it doesn't go off over her shoulders and head. The Cirque style also has a buckle, rather than velcro, so it's less likely to pop open when she pulls back.10/2/16 - I had to add an additional belly band to keep the harness from going over my dog's head. Still cheaper than another heavy-duty harness that would be too hot in the summer. I don't use the harness much now because my dog can run off leash in some places, and I use a combination of greyhound collar and Gentle Leader as needed for our daily walks. It's a breed thing, not the harness's fault.Original review: This harness is not appropriate if your dog pulls with a lot of force. It works fine for my Irish Jack if she is just trotting along, but if she sees a squirrel or chipmunk she pulls really hard. The black edge binding fabric is stretchy and the neckline pulls back over her shoulders and before I know it she is running free. I'm sure the stretchiness is designed for comfort, but it's not practical for all dogs. It's not safe for a puller. I have found another brand that looks similar, but the binding is a non-stretchy material. It stays on. The colors aren't as nice, but I am going back to that brand.5/13/15 5/13/15 I have reconsidered and given the harness 4 stars. I contacted Jennifer at RC Pet Products about my concerns. She readily offered to ship me a new harness the next size down. She said that escaping the harness usually means improper sizing. She was right. Sizing down has worked to keep my dog safe. I originally chose a size based on the chart measurements, but it's an inexact science. I think it's tricky because dogs are proportioned so differently. My shorty jack has a very skinny neck but her chest is broad, relatively speaking. The harness has lots of adjustment for the chest so it works for her. RC Pet Products has excellent customer service. Our dog only weighs 15 pounds and therefore needed a harness (since collars can hurt the esophagus of small dogs when leash is pulled). I cannot tell you how many of these we tried, at least half a dozen, prior to keeping this one. Some did not have a good fit by design and one or two were not the right size. The small fits perfectly. The harness has been used daily for 10 months and is still in excellent condition. We walk our dog about 12-15 miles a week so it gets lot of use. I've never had to wash the harness, and it does not seem to absorb moisture or dirt. The first few times we put the harness on we did not notice the obvious loop on the top of the back (not shown in the Amazon picture since the photos is showing the stomach chest plate area with logo) where the harness clasp is supposed to feed through to keep all of it snuggly in the right position. Not seen is the single, very secure metal loop that is located on the top of the harness just above and behind your pet's front legs.Excellent product: is comfortable for puppy, easy to slip on and take off (over the head, then loop/snap a single clasp), is well made and I have no concerns that it will break somehow if I need to pull or firmly hold my dog (like when he gets overly excited to try to get to a new "playmate" on a walk, and is of enduring quality.Rubbish quality ripped as soon as my dog walked an inch in front of meSoo I just recieved this harness and it's amazing. Granted I do not own a dog.... but I own a cat... hes a wee bit chunky. He weighs 18 lbs and this harness fits him. Dont judge me I know hes a bit... large lol but ya this harness fits him with room to spare. Gaurenteed he can fit in this until hes about 22 lbs. Bought this as he does NOT fit in a car leash/harness lolPaws (my cat) loves it. Its comfy for him. He can move around and it has breatheable meshWe ordered size Large, our dog is 25-26lbs. His measures 21” around his chest/torso and 14”around his neck .We needed a harness that was not step-in style, and with the soft part extended higher behind the front legs. Our fella is getting older and has arthritis in his front legs, so we needed something that the buckles would not dig in right behind his armpits and shoulders. He wore it on a hike today and he seemed very comfortable and had pep in his step. The next is not adjustable, so I could see that being an issue for some. The d-rings are small, and strap is a bit thin, so not sure how durable it will be over time. But so far, so good.Beautiful well made harness. The xxs is finally small enough to fit my 4 month old approximately 2lb (just shy) chihuahua. Its so hard to find a tiny harness that is more than just nylon straps which are uncomfortable on such a small dog. The only issue i have with this harness is that if Willow's head grows any more the harness will be unusable for her. It would still fit her body for quite a while but it is already almost snug going over her head. She is an applehead chihuahua so her head is quite large compared to the rest of her. It would be great for small head breeds of dogs.
